Around 2000 BCE, the Mayans (In Central America) began to build small villages, forming the Mayan Civilisation, one of the earliest civilisations in the Americas. By 1000 BCE, the villages had turned into cities (The capital one being Aguada Fenix).
The Maya Civilisation became very powerful. It had Lowlands (300 meters above sea level) and Highlands (1,800 meters high).
The Maya Civilisation's Height
80% of their diet was maize. They also grew chillies and cocoa, and trade flourished, although they were not unified, just "city-states".
After 400 BCE, the civilisation split into 2 parts (El Mirador in the north and Kaminal Juyu in the south), both wanting to rule over all of Central America.
